Virginia & DC Links:

  • Virginians Aligned Against Sexual Assault (VAASA): VAASA is Virginia's coalition of sexual assault centers, related programs, and concerned individuals. VAASA offers training, resources and technical assistance and has an excellent lending library.
  • Virginians Against Domestic Violence (VADV): VADV is Virginia's state coalition of domestic violence programs and concerned individuals. VADV offers training, resources and technical assistance, and like VAASA, has a great resource library.
  • Men Can Stop Rape: A DC-area organization that empowers male youth and the institutions that serve them to work as allies with women in preventing rape and other forms of men's violence.
  • The Empower Program: A Washington DC based organization dedicated to educating girls about their own abilities and rights, including defending themselves against abuse and harassment.

National, International Links:

  • Amnesty International: Get their 2001 report on violence against woman around the world, Broken bodies, shattered minds: Torture and ill-treatment of women.
  • Communities Against Violence Network (CAVNET): This page is an interactive web page --essentially a search engine -- linking different sites dedicated to this issue. 
  • End Violence Against Women Global Forum: This is an archives of the discussions among women around the globe who are working to end violence against women. Managed and funded by the United Nations as part of the Beijing +5 committee. This is a fascinating and important discussion. Women from every continent (except Antarctica!) have participated in this discussion.
  • Gerri Gribi's Website: Includes an annotated list of more than 200 recorded songs related to domestic violence and sexual assault. It covers every genre from traditional folk to punk, and includes many links to online lyrics.
  • Healing Women Newsletter: A monthly on-line newsletter for women who were sexually abused as children. 
  • Human Rights Watch: Human Rights Watch monitors human rights in over 70 countries. Check out their Arrest Now! campaign to arrest war criminals in the former Yugoslavia.
  • Media Watch: challenges abusive stereotypes and other biased images commonly found in the media.
  • National Organization on Male Sexual Victimization: Dedicated to a safe world, we are an organization of diverse individuals committed through research, education, advocacy and treatment and elimination of all forms of sexual victimization of boys and men.
  • National Coalition Against Domestic Violence: Website of the major national coalition working to end domestic violence.
  • Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA): "If you are freedom-loving, anti-funadmentalist, you are with us." RAWA was established in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1977 as an independent political/social organization of Afghan women fighting for human rights and for social justice in Afghanistan. They continue their work, in spite of the gynocidal policies of the Taliban regime.
  • Sexual Assault Information Page: A wonderfully comprehensive resouce on a host of issues pertaining to sexual assault and abuse. While the site itself is no longer available, an archived version is available here
  • Stop Prisoner Rape: A resource for and about male and female inmates who have been sexually abused.
