The following statistics are of those cases reported directly to the Sexual Assault Education Office, the Sexual Assault Resource Agency, or (starting in 1997) the Shelter for Help in Emergency, by a survivor or by a third party, such as a faculty member, a dean or a friend of a survivor. Domestic Violence data reported by SHE includes all cases involving members of the UVA Community: students or their partners, faculty or their partners, and staff or their partners.

From 1991-1999, data was collected by the fiscal year (July-June). Starting in 2000, it was collected by the calendar year, in accordance with the data sent to the Department of Education in compliance with the Student Right to Know Act.
